While asphalt shingles are widely regarded as a residential roofing material, it can be used in commercial applications, with its own unique advantages.
Auburn Shingles
Asphalt shingles work on just about any type of sloped roof. You can choose from a wide selection of styles, colors and profiles. There are three types of asphalt shingles that can be installed on sloped roofing systems:
Three-tab shingles – These are often referred to as the “traditional” asphalt shingles. They provide a clean, no-fuss look that looks great on most building styles. They typically last about 20 years with care and maintenance.
Laminate shingles – Also known as dimensional or architectural shingles, laminate shingles are made of differently cut shingles laminated together. They’re meant to mimic hand-cut wood shakes. Thanks to their additional thickness, laminate shingles are more durable than three-tab shingles.
Specialty shingles – Some roofing manufacturers offer “premium” shingles that combine the features of laminate shingles with profiles that mimic shapes like slate, fish scales and geometrical shapes like hexagons.
Asphalt roofing is also available on flat roofs. Instead of shingles, asphalt roofing comes in rolls and is installed in a similar way to bituminous roofing.
Auburn Roof Shingles
Asphalt shingles have relatively low maintenance features compared to other roofing systems. They don’t get punctured easily and have some of the best warranties available. Asphalt shingle roofs also do not take as long to repair and do not require special tools to do so.
Auburn Roofing Shingles
Asphalt shingle roofs can withstand most weather conditions. In fact, some asphalt roofing systems are rated to withstand up to Category 4 hurricanes as well as other conditions, such as extreme heat. Many asphalt shingle manufacturers offer energy-efficient asphalt shingles, which feature reflective coatings that help reduce heat absorption and reduce indoor cooling requirements.
