A leaking roof is the last thing you want to greet you over the weekend. Leaks may seem like harmless little aberrations that can be fixed at your own leisure, but they’re actually one of the progenitors of more concerning roofing problems. So what do you do if you have a leak in your roof? Tedrick’s Roofing discusses more.
The Dangers of Leaking Roofs
Leaks are subtle, and the dangerous thing about them is that the nasty side effect it brings usually manifests very late in the roofing’s lifetime if you fail to address them properly. They can get really big in a small amount of time, too. A small leak can quickly grow in size in just a matter of weeks due to a combination of heat, moisture damage, and humidity. This is the reason why we always suggest you have even the smallest leak addressed as soon as possible.
Gutters and Leaks
Leak formation happens because there’s excess water in your roofing that’s stripping the shingles of their protective waterproofing layer. If you haven’t already, we highly recommend you have us do gutter installation in your home. The gutters direct water away from your exterior walls and help reduce water accumulation on your roofing. The less water present on your roof, the likely it is for leaks to form.
When To Replace Shingles?
The shingles are responsible for preventing water from entering the actual structure of your roofing, so you need to know when it’s time to replace them to avoid leak formations. Cracked shingles are a warning sign that the shingles are close to failing and need replacing soon. Granules in the gutters are another, as the granules are the waterproofing layer in the shingles stripped off due to water exposure.
